Fall River police charge New Bedford man in Wednesday shooting where home, vehicles were hit

Fall River Police made two arrests and continue to investigate a Wednesday evening shooting in the city.

According to Detective John Robinson, on Wednesday at approximately 7:00 p.m., City Officers were dispatched to Tecumseh Street on a report of gun shots.  Upon arrival, Officer Marques Pires was given information that a black male with a red sweatshirt was seen running on Blackstone Street toward Stop and Shop.  Witnesses had also seen a silver car fleeing the area of the gun fire.  While en route to the call, Officer Gregory Homen noticed a silver vehicle parked on Lowell Street just blocks from the shooting. Officer Homen noticed two occupants, one adult male wearing a red sweatshirt and red jacket, the other a 17 year-old female. The occupants were both detained. 

On scene, Officers located several shell casings in the area.  Officers noted that there were several bullet holes in a multi family home on Tecumseh Street along with bullet holes in 2 vehicles that were parked in the driveway.

Witnesses were able to identify the male as the shooter. Derek R. Pires, 25, of County Street in New Bedford, was placed under arrest and charged with Numerous Firearms charges, Misleading Police, and Firearm Violation with 3 prior violent crimes.

The Juvenile female gave conflicting statements and was charged with Misleading Police.
