Fall River Fire Department contains, puts out, 3-alarm blaze in mill

Fall River Firefighters made a save at a mill fire Tuesday morning.

Crews responded to 1 Middle Street after a call came in shortly before 8:15 a.m. for smoke showing from the second and third floors of the mill building.

Nearby structures were immediately evacuated.

The fire began on the second floor of the vacant structure and continued to the third floor.

Approximately an hour and a half after crews arrived on scene, the fire was deemed under control and the fire was reported to be out at approximately 10:45 a.m.

No injuries have been reported at the former Duro location.

Mill fires can be particularly hazardous and dangerous, however, FRFD contained the blaze to inside the structure.

Three weeks ago, 7 city fires occurred in approximately one hour including a mattress and brush fire at 1 Middle Street.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
