FALL RIVER, MA – August 27, 2020 – RMC Pictures announces the premiere screening of the film “WOKE,” which can be seen exclusively at the Hip Hop Film Festival’s new IMMERSIVE CINEMA, powered by 247films.tv on Saturday, August 29, at 5pm ET as part of the 2020 festival.

“WOKE” is about a “woke” African-American woman who wakes up in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 3000. All Black women are now extinct – and a pair of futuristic news goggles tells her how it happened. Award winning film writer and creator Raeshelle Cooke of Fall River, along with her cast of creators, bring the movie industry a unique take on race relations in the U.S. while using science fiction elements and a Twilight Zone-style twist ending.

As a selected film and content creator of the 2020 HHFF, the “WOKE” cast and team will interact with the audience during an immersive cinematic experience, including a live Q&A, panel discussion, and interactive performances.

“I created ‘WOKE’ to encourage Black women to stop being everyone’s superwoman, and to look out for their own happiness for once; to do them for once despite whatever ignorant judgements and criticisms they’ll get in result,” said Cooke, who also founded RMC Pictures. “This film is a warning to Black women: stop being blindly loyal. Do you. Or get left behind.”

This year’s festival highlights content and stories from the culture across genres including women-led stories, black stories, sci-fi, comedy and more. The festival awards the distinction of BEST of the FEST in over 21 categories including Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Web Series, and more. The Closing Awards ceremony will take place this fall.
