Fall River City Council doesn’t get votes to declare mayor unable to perform job

Mayor Jasiel Correia will keep his duties as Mayor at least for the time being.

The motion to declare Mayor unable to perform his duties in accordance with the City Charter did not garner enough votes. The final vote was 5-4 in favor. 7 yes votes were needed. Joe Camara, Steve Camara, Leo Pelletier, and Derek Viveiros all voted no.

The motion of a vote of no confidence concerning the Mayor passed 8-1 with Steve Camara the lone no vote.

The Council also voted in favor of the Mayor to resign which Correia has stated on several occasions that he will not do so.
