Dish from Fall River establishment named one of 23 Best American Dishes of 2023 by New York Times
A dish served from a Fall River spot is receiving high praise.
The New York Times gathered their 23 of the Best American Dishes of 2023 and as they scouted restaurants around the country, one of their favorites this year came from the Scholarship City.
The Times posted the following concerning Bacalhau a Gomes de Sa at Portugalia Marketplace:
“Portugalia has always been known for bacalhau. That’s been true since it opened in a three-car garage behind a tenement house in the 1980s, through to its current incarnation, where the codfish counter is across a handsome grocery store from the wine department. So, it logically follows that one of the few dishes you’ll always find at the prepared food counter is this classic bacalhau stew, a rustic, salty favorite in this Portuguese stronghold on the New England coast.” – BRETT ANDERSON

Totally disagree. The prepared food here is terrible. It is overcooked, dried out and way overly salted! I could steer you to several Portuguese Restaurants in Fall River with a much better bacalhau plate. This place is totally overhyped and is more of a tourist trap for those out of the loop
concerning Portuguese Foods. Hype should be the dish of the day at Portugalia.
