It’s DINOSAUR WEEK next week at the Fall River Public Library! Here are some of the dino-themed events, plus other programs for all ages.

Monday, June 19: the library is closed for the Juneteenth holiday.

Tuesday, June 20:

Take-home Dinosaur Magnet Crafts: Make a not-so-ferocious but lots-of-fun summer Dinosaur Magnet for your fridge! Choose from a surfing brontosaurus, a triceratops in shades, or a T-Rex who’s ready to snorkel. Cowabunga, dinos! Available all week while supplies last.

T-Rex Scavenger Hunt: 9 am–7:30 pm. Your mission: locate the fossils of the mighty T-Rex that are hidden throughout the library and put him back together for a super cool prize from a land before time! Get your entry form down in the Children’s Room. For ages 3 and up.

Dino Puppet Show: 11 am—11:30 am. Two Dinosaurs Are Better Than One! will be presented by Anna Sobel of Talking Hands Puppets.

Middle Grade Book Club: 5 pm – 6 pm. Children ages 8-12 are invited to join us for this discussion of Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. This club meets monthly, and copies of the assigned title are provided for students to keep. Ask Miss Emily in the Children’s Room for more info.

Wednesday, June 21:

Jurassic Park Comes to the Library: 11 am—12 noon. For one hour only, the library will go back in time 65 million years to when dinosaurs ruled the Earth! SIX giant inflatable dinosaurs will roam the front lawn, meeting children and posing for pictures. No need for fear–these giant critters are all friendly and ALL are vegetarians! Craft tables featuring fun dino activities will also be outdoors for children to enjoy! Fill out an entry form at our raffle table and you could win a basket filled with dinosaur goodies! In case of rain, the event will take place on Friday, June 23 at 11:00 a.m.

Books & Tea Club: 2 pm—3:30 pm. Adults are invited to join us for a different kind of book club, one with no required reading. Read the book of your choice and share it with the group over tea and light refreshments.

Magic: the Gathering: 5 pm—7 pm. Teens age 12-18 are invited to join us for a weekly meetup to play the world’s most popular trading card game! New players are always welcome.

Ken Gloss on Old & Rare Books, 6 pm—7:30 pm. Ever wonder how much that family heirloom book is worth? Ken Gloss, proprietor of The Brattle Book Shop, founded in 1825, would know. He is a past President of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America’s New England Chapter and has appeared on local and national television, including Antiques Roadshow. Ken will share his insights on book collecting and book values. Attendees are invited to bring an old or rare book for Ken to briefly appraise. You never know what treasures might be in your own attic! Sponsored by the Friends of the Fall River Public Library.

Thursday, June 22:

Mad Science Workshop: Dinosaurs! 11 am—12 noon. Mad Science Labs returns to the library for an exciting hands-on exploration of dinosaurs and fossils! Learn all about the different types of dinosaurs and their habitat. Participate in a mini fossil excavation! Cast a T-Rex tooth!

Sign-up is required for this program. Registration begins Thursday, June 15. Contact the Children’s Room at 508-324-2700, ext. 4. Recommended for children ages 5 and up.

BEAM Games, 4 pm—5 pm. Kids 4 and up are invited for an hour of lively interactive games. Walk-ins welcome!

Craft Workshop with Stephanie Enloe: 6 pm—7:30 pm. Join Stephanie Enloe of the Craftyish Shop for another fun, free craft workshop! This month will feature a summer plant pot craft. Paint a clay pot to create these whimsical “plant people” to decorate your porch, stairs, or garden. Everything is included, including a plant. Sign up at the Circulation Desk or call 508-324-2700, ext. 2. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Fall River Public Library and supported in part by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Friday, June 23:

Board Game Afternoon: 1 pm—2 pm. Every Friday this summer starting June 23 you can play some fun board games! Beat the heat (and some library staff members) in Munchkin, Machi Koro, Oni Tama, and more! Program geared towards ages 12-19, participants are invited to bring their own board games to share as well!

Just a reminder: the library is now closed on Saturdays for the summer, and is open Fridays from 8 am – 3 pm. Online services available 24/7 through fallriverlibrary.org
