Diman Regional ranked top high school in Fall River, city fails to crack top 200

A new report ranked high schools from across the state and across the country including Fall River.

Out of the 340 high schools ranked by U.S. News & World Report in Massachusetts, Fall River failed to crack the top 200.

Diman Regional Vocational Technical High ranked 237th within Massachusetts. While Diman had a 96% graduation rate, their college readiness score came in at 5.3 out of 100.

Atlantis Charter School ranked #243 in the state. Atlantis had a 96% graduation rate and a 24.2 rating for college readiness.

B M C Durfee High ranked 254th within Massachusetts. Durfee had an 82% graduation rate, according to the report, with a college readiness score of 20.7.

Argosy and Resiliency Prep did not receive a ranking.

Westport Junior/Senior High school fared better with a ranking of 220. Westport was boosted by a high college readiness score of 38.5 and a graduation rate of 91%.

Somerset Berkley came in at #178 with a graduation rate of 98%, and a college readiness score of 34.4.

Joseph Case entered the rankings at #166 with a 96% graduation rate and 38.4 college readiness.

The best ranking for a local high school in Massachusetts was Dartmouth which came in at #128 in the state due to their 46.6 college readiness score. The graduation rate came in at 97%.

Tiverton High School came in at #17 in Rhode Island compared to 55 high schools ranked in the state. Tiverton came in with an 91% graduation rate and 33.5 for college readiness.

The report was ranked based on the following criteria:

College Readiness|30%
The proportions of 12th graders who took and passed at least one AP or IB exam. Passing is worth three times more than just taking.

Math and Reading Proficiency|20%
Aggregated scores on state assessments that students may be required to pass for graduation.

Math and Reading Performance|20%
How aggregated scores on state assessments compare to U.S. News’s expectations given the proportions of students who are black, Hispanic and from low-income households.

Underserved Student Performance|10%
Scores on state assessments aggregated just among students who are black, Hispanic and from low-income households. These scores are compared to what is typical in the state for non-undeserved students, with parity or higher being the goal.

College Curriculum Breadth|10%
The proportions of 12th graders who took and passed AP and IB exams in multiple areas. More exams are valued more than fewer exams up to a maximum of four. Passing an exam is worth three times more than taking.

Graduation Rate|10%
The proportion of entering 9th graders who graduated four academic years later.

Boston Latin came in at #1 in Massachusetts and 26th in the country.
