A Bristol County man has pled guilty in Fall River Superior Court after being accused of beating his partner and then beating the victim’s pet causing its eventual death.

30-year-old Kaylab Diederichs of Mansfield was sentenced to 2 years in state prison.

According to Mansfield Police, in September of 2022, Officers responded to an address on North Main Street in Mansfield for a report of a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival of the officers, a brief investigation revealed that Diederichs had committed the crime of Assault and Battery on an Intimate Partner. He was placed under arrest and transported to the police station for booking.

While additional officers were assisting the victim, it was discovered that the victim’s cat had been severely beaten and was suffering from what appeared to be substantial life-threatening injuries. The obvious signs of trauma to the animal necessitated immediate transportation to Tufts Veterinary Emergency Center in Walpole, MA by Animal Control Officer Collins. The animal was eventually euthanized as a result of two puncture wounds, lung trauma, a broken leg, and a skull fracture.

Investigation of the crime scene led investigators to charge Diederichs with Cruelty to an Animal.
