Brayton Ave Cafe helps firefighters warm up at New Years Eve party

Last night’s fire on Rodman St was located down the street from Brayton Ave Café. Power was out due to the fire  and firefighters were frozen from the frigid temperatures. The café recounted how they turned what could have been a disappointing night, into something special.

“What started out as typical fun night quickly turned sour when power was lost. The band was unable to perform, registers and credit card machines rendered useless. We soon realized the reason for the outage was a massive fire only five houses down from The Brayton Ave Cafe. As we patiently waited for the power to be restored, the band played a cool acoustic set and our loyal patrons kept things fun. As the clock drew closer to midnight I noticed 2 firefighters huddled outside the cafe. Their suits were literally frozen solid from fighting the blaze in sub freezing weather. I went outside and invited them in to warm up. What started out as 2 firefighters turned into the entire force that was fighting the fire. We had one of the firefighters do our midnight countdown as we welcomed the New Year. The Fall River Firefighters are simply some of the greatest people this city has to offer. Not once were they complaining about the cold, the power outage or working on New Years. They were simply doing what they pledged to do…help others. The night was not a financial success as I had hoped but like everyone else at the cafe we were reminded of what is truly important… Family, Friends and Health. This will be a New Years I will never forget. From my family to yours we want to wish everyone a Happy New Years.”
