At least three tornadoes touch down in southern New England including one in Bristol County

At least three tornadoes touched down in southern New England on Friday including one that barreled through two Bristol County communities.

According to the National Weather Service Boston, at 8:45 a.m., broadcast media relayed a video of a tornado crossing I-295 on the Smithfield and Johnston town line in Rhode Island. According to multiple reports, a car on I-295 was lifted off the ground in Johnston with the driver suffering injuries.

At 9:15 a.m., a tornado touchdown was believed to take place and has since been confirmed in both North Attleborough and Mansfield Massachusetts. The survey team will determine an EF-rating as well as a complete track once the survey is completed later today.

A confirmed tornado also touched down in Weymouth, Massachusetts at 9:50 a.m. An EF-rating and path length will be determined at the completion of the Storm Survey.

In addition to the three tornadoes, many communities across Rhode Island and Massachusetts reported down trees and power lines. Fall River and other cities and towns also experienced periods of severe flooding.
