With heat index over 100 and possible severe storms coming to much of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Fall River announces cooling center
(FALL RIVER, MA – July 24, 2025) – Mayor Paul Coogan has announced a cooling center at Fall River Government Center due to the extreme heat expected in the area.
The cooling center will be open from 8:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m., Friday, July 25th and will be in the lobby of Government Center and can be accessed through the Third Street entrance.
A Heat Advisory has been issued for much of southern New England, excluding the south coast and the Berkshires, for Thursday and Friday. Heat index values are expected to reach the mid-90s on Thursday, with Friday being the hottest day as heat indices climb into the low 100s.
A cold front may bring isolated severe storms to southern New England Friday between 1–9 PM. Be weather-aware if you have outdoor plans!
Due to high temperatures, the City of Fall River wants to remind citizens to check on family, friends, and neighbors. Drink plenty of water, stay inside in a cool area, and do not exert yourself if you have health conditions. Stay cool and safe.
