Officials investigating head-on crash in Massachusetts that left one dead, six seriously injured
Police Chief James Sartell and Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan report that their agencies are jointly investigating a fatal crash on Route 119 that occurred late Monday afternoon.
On Monday, at approximately 5:35 p.m., Townsend Police were dispatched to the area of Route 119 (Main Street) near the intersection with Route 13 for a report of a crash. Upon arrival, officers observed that two vehicles had collided head-on and that multiple occupants in both vehicles had sustained injuries.
All seven occupants — three from the sedan and four from the SUV — were transported from the scene by ambulance with serious injuries. The driver of the sedan has since died as a result of their injuries.
A preliminary investigation indicated that a sedan traveling westbound on Route 119 crossed the center line and collided with an SUV traveling in the opposite direction.
The crash remains under investigation by Townsend Police and the Massachusetts State Police’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, as well as the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
