Massachusetts schools see over 500 cases of COVID-19 this week, community breakdown released

COVID-19 cases among Massachusetts schools saw an increase from last week along with an increase in some area communities.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 276 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from November 26 to December 2. 251 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 482.

The report from the week prior revealed that 482 tested positive. 276 of the positives were students and 206 were staff.

The report only includes positive cases of students and staff who have been in school for either in-person or hybrid learning. Remote learning cases are not counted.

Here are the statistics from some area cities and towns from November 26 to December 2.

Attleboro: 2 students, 3 staff
Dartmouth: 2 students, 3 staff
Fairhaven: no cases
Fall River: 0 students and 8 staff
New Bedford: 15 students and 9 staff
Plymouth: 3 students
Seekonk: 3 students and 1 staff
Somerset: no cases
Swansea: 2 students and 1 staff
Taunton: no cases
Westport: 3 students

Fall River has the second most COVID-19 cases in the state for school staff. New Bedford is first in the state for staff cases and second in cases overall. Methuen had the most.
