Brief pursuit ends in serious crash in Raynham that leaves driver with life-threatening injuries
A local man has been seriously injured after a brief pursuit led to a serious crash Tuesday.
According to Dave Procopio of the Massachusetts State Police, shortly before 9:00 a.m., a Trooper from State Police-Middleboro attempted to stop a 2007 Ford 500 on Route 495 in Raynham as it exited the ramp at Exit 8.
Procopio stated that the vehicle refused to stop and moments later struck a utility pole on Route 138 north and the vehicle caught on fire.
The driver was a 34-year-old Taunton man.
According to the Raynham Fire Department, firefighters saw heavy smoke and fire upon arrival. Engine 3 began an aggressive attack and was able to quickly extinguish the flames within 10 minutes.
First responders located the driver who was laying in the roadway and began rendering aid. The driver was then transported via Raynham Fire ambulance with serious, life-threatening injuries to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.
No other injuries were reported.
The Raynham Police Department and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation responded to the scene to assist with traffic. Taunton Municipal Lighting also responded to the scene.
The scene was cleared at 9:37 a.m.
The crash investigation is ongoing.
