EEE risk in Fall River continues to be elevated
The risk of EEE in Fall River continues to be elevated according to authorities.
The City of Fall River, through Director of Health and Human Services Tess Curran, issued a statement to alert residents to continue taking precautions.
Residents should continue to protect themselves from mosquito bites by staying indoors during peak mosquito hours (dusk – dawn), applying insect repellent when outdoors, draining standing water where mosquitoes breed, and repairing screens in doors and windows.
400 mosquitoes have tested positive for EEE in Massachusetts with 9 animals and 7 humans testing positive for the virus.
Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus activity has been detected in Barnstable, Bristol, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, and Worcester counties.
