Massachusetts high school student dead from an apparent drowning remembered as kind, respectful young man

A Massachusetts teen who died in an apparent drowning over the weekend is being remembered.

At just after 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, a call came into dispatch for a water rescue for a 17-year-old male at the quarries at Shadowbrook Lane in Milford.

On Sunday, crews were still searching for the missing swimmer until the afternoon when the body of high school senior Yanick Rodrigues was recovered.

According to his shop teacher at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School, Rodrigues was an Auto Tech student at the school

“Yanick wasn’t just a student—he was a friend, a classmate, and a valued member of our shop family. His kindness, his smile, and the memories he created with us will remain in our hearts forever.

“There are no words that can truly express the sadness we feel today. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, classmates, and everyone whose life he touched.

“To my students: Please take care of one another. Check in on your friends. Tell the people you love that you love them. Life is precious, and tomorrow is never promised.

“Yanick, thank you for being part of our AutoTech family. Your seat in the shop may now be empty, but your impact never will be.

“Rest easy, young man. Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.

“Forever in our hearts. Never forgotten.”

Others described Rodrigues as a good young man who was respectful and helpful. He also was a talented soccer player.

Services have not yet been announced and the incident is under investigation.
