Massachusetts State Police announce two fatal accidents overnight

Massachusetts State Police are investigating two fatal crashes that occurred early this morning.

This morning, at approximately 2:57 a.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Foxborough responded to reports of a rollover crash on Route 495 Southbound, 2 miles south of Exit 16 in Wrentham, which resulted in the death of the operator.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Shane O’Reilly indicates that a 2000 Nissan Xterra was traveling on Route 495 southbound when for unknown reasons the operator lost control and the vehicle rolled over.

The operator of the Nissan, a 68-year-old man from Middleborough, was determined to be deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Route 495 southbound was shut down and traffic was diverted off onto exit 16. The roadway was closed for 2 hours and 40 minutes.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation.

Trooper O’Reilly is being assisted in this investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, H Troop Detectives and Norfolk County DA’s Office. Also assisting on scene were members of Wrentham Police and Fire, The Medical Examiner’s Office and MA department of Transportation.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.

 

Also this morning, at approximately 1:29 a.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Norwell responded to reports of a motorcycle crash on Route 3 Southbound, just after Exit 14 in Rockland, which resulted in the death of the motorcycle operator.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Mathew Holden indicates that a 2013 Ford F150 was traveling on Route 3 southbound in the right travel lane when it was struck from behind by a 2006 Suzuki GSXR600 which was also traveling on Route 3 southbound in the right travel lane.

The operator of the motorcycle, a 22-year-old man from Hanover, was determined to be deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.. The operator of the ford, a 34-year-old man from Monument Beach, suffered no injury.

Route 3 southbound was shut down and traffic was diverted off onto exit 14. The roadway was closed for 2 hours and 45 minutes.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation.

Trooper Holden is being assisted in this investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and Plymouth County DA’s Office. Also assisting on scene were members of Rockland Police, Fire and EMS and MA department of Transportation.
