Woman charged after homeless veteran died from injuries sustained in Providence hit-and-run crash

A woman has been charged after a local homeless veteran died from injuries sustained in a pedestrian crash.

According to his brother Michael, 57-year-old Eddie English passed away Tuesday evening at 7:45 p.m.

Michael stated that his brother was hit on the corner of Rochambeau Avenue and North Main Street in Providence on New Year’s Eve night at 7:20 p.m.

English was transported to Rhode Island Hospital before succumbing to his injuries.

According to ABC6, 31-year-old Ariel Acosta will be charged with hit and run, death resulting, and a green 2005 Toyota Highlander was towed to police headquarters.

Police had been looking for a dark colored SUV, possibly a Jeep Commander, with a Georgia dealer plate and likely front-end damage.

English served as a member of the United States Marine Corps.

An obituary states that funeral arrangements are being held at the J. F. Skeffington Funeral Home and Cremations, 925 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence. Family and friends are invited to calling hours at the funeral home Monday, January 15th from 5-7 pm.

Funeral services are on Tuesday, January 16th at 10 am at St Raymond Church, 1240 North Main Street, Providence, followed by a burial in Swan Point Cemetery on Blackstone Boulevard Providence with military honors.
