A Westport woman who made a profound impact on the South Coast has died suddenly.

According to an obituary, 30-year-old Kara Elizabeth Borges passed away on Friday after an unexpected illness.

Borges was a Special Education Pre-Kindergarten teacher at Carney Academy Elementary School in New Bedford and also served as the office manager at Elephant Rock Beach Club.

Condolences and remembrances have been pouring in on social media describing how special a human being Borges was, including the Liberal Club Restaurant in Fall River.

“We are all heartbroken to hear of the loss of Kara. She was a bright light with the biggest, kindest smile. She loved her stuffies with extra lemon. She was just the kind of person you were lucky to know, her infectious smile instantly radiating joy. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends-and anyone who knew her.”

Kara’s obituary stated that “she dedicated her time and energy to helping others, never expecting anything in return. Her passion ran deep—whether in her work, her relationships, or the causes she believed in, Kara poured her whole self into everything she did. She had a remarkable way of making others feel loved and supported, always placing their needs above her own. Her generosity had no limits. She brought joy with her laughter and sunshine with her smile. She was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her.”

Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, at 8:00 P.M. Calling hours Wednesday, from 3-8 P.M. prior to the service. Interment will be private.

Flowers are welcome, but donations may also be made in her honor to Community Autism Awareness, ATTN: Crystal Medeiros, 40A Dean St., Taunton, MA 02780 or at
