The Fall River and Tiverton Police Departments combined to arrest a man concerning a reported armed robbery at a city store on Saturday.

According to Lt. Gregory Wiley of FRPD, at approximately 12:31 p.m., Fall River Police responded to the Maplewood Superette, located at 1545 Stafford Road, for a report of an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, the store owners informed officers that a white male with a skinny build, possibly in his late 50’s, wearing a black hat, blue facial mask, and black sweatshirt, entered the convenience store and demanded lottery money. The suspect, believed to be 58-year-old Randy Audet of Tiverton, was pointing with an object from under his sweatshirt which the victims believed to be a firearm.

After being given some money, Audet was chased out of the store with a baseball bat, according to police. He then entered a vehicle and attempted to flee. The female store owners then smashed out the car window with the bat and then a brief struggle occurred which removed Audet’s mask. Audet then threw the money from the robbery to the ground and fled the area.

Tiverton Police later located the vehicle allegedly involved in the robbery at 25 Stafford Road in Tiverton.

Tiverton Police obtained a search warrant for the residence and the vehicle. Probable cause was developed during the investigation and Audet was arrested by the Tiverton Police as a fugitive from justice.
