Westport Police report five car crashes, 3 arrests over the weekend, including one from Fall River
The Westport Police Department made three arrests and responded to five motor vehicle crashes over the first weekend of Summer 2021.
According to Sergeant Bryan McCarthy, on Saturday night at 8:20 p.m., police were dispatched to CVS on State Road to investigate a potential shoplifting. Police encountered 36-year-old Tara Marie Pittsley of Fall River, who was placed under arrest for a warrant out of Fall River District Court.
Later on Saturday night at 8:50 p.m., police were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash near the intersection of Old County and Main Road. Multiple callers reported the crash and witnesses stated one of the vehicles involved was “driving all over the road and had no lights on.” Police investigated the crash and arrested 50-year-old Robert Abraham Habib of Westport, who was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Marked Lanes Violation.
Again on Saturday night at 11:20 p.m. police observed a motor vehicle infraction and attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on State Road. McCarthy stated that police activated the blue lights to stop the vehicle, however the operator continued to travel for some time, failing to stop. Eventually, the vehicle came to rest on Route 88 north near Route 195. After the police investigation, 36-year-old Mark Mello of Litchfield, New Hampshire was placed under arrest and charged with Following to Close, Speeding, Fail to Stop For Police, Subsequent Possession of Class B (Gabapentin) and Possession With the Intent to Distribute Class D (5.5 ounces of Marijuana).
McCarthy stated that Westport Police encourage the public to call and report aggressive driving.
“With the summer beginning, we can all do our part to help save lives.”
