A vigil and multiple fundraisers have been organized for a Massachusetts family who lost an 11-year-old girl, their home, and all of their possessions in a weekend house fire.

According to officials, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Saturday, Middleborough Fire and Police were dispatched to 27 Pearl Street for a report of a structure fire with people trapped inside.

Companies arrived on scene and found heavy fire coming from the first and second floors of the home. They made an aggressive attack to prevent extension to nearby buildings.

Other companies attempted to access the home to rescue a juvenile female who was reportedly still inside, but they were unable to get inside the home due to heavy fire conditions.

Once the fire was knocked down, the juvenile female was found deceased inside the home.

An adult female was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital with burn injuries that appeared to be serious, while an adult male and another juvenile female were both transported by ambulance to local hospitals with less severe injuries.

Neighbors told WCVB that the 11-year-old girl had three siblings who survived the fire, and that the two adults who were injured in the fire were relatives taking care of those four children, while the couple was on vacation.

A vigil was held for the family on Saturday evening organized by community members.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized for the Lane family, by their landlord.

A meal train has also been organized for the family by those in the community.

The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature but is still under investigation by the Middleborough Fire Department, the Middleborough Police Department, the Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
