Video surveillance, Fall River pawn shop lead to arrest on breaking and entering charges

Police arrested a local man on burglary charges after several pieces of evidences tied him to the crime.

According to Detective Lieutenant Michael C. Arnold, on November 25th at approximately 9:00 p.m., Portsmouth RI Officers were dispatched to an Anthony Road residence for the report of a Breaking and entering in progress. The calling party contacted dispatch stating that a party, wearing a hooded sweatshirts and a mask was currently inside the residence, after viewing surveillance cameras on a cell phone. The calling party was not at the residence at the time of the crime taking place. Upon officers arrival the suspect had left the residence.

The resident noted that an iPAD along with a necklace was taken by the suspect. On December 3rd the necklace was recovered from a pawn shop in Fall River. The suspect, Jameson Hassett, 32, had pawned the necklace and had also been a former roommate of the victim. On December 5th a warrant was signed and this morning the U.S. Marshals Task Force apprehended Hassett at his home in Middletown.

The iPAD was later recovered with the assistance of Middletown Detectives.
