UPDATE: Fundraiser created after good Samaritan hit by vehicle, significantly injured in Fall River crash

The family of a woman who suffered significant injuries due to a crash on the Braga Bridge is asking the public for prayers.

29-year-old Stefanie Cabral of Bridgewater was one of the victims in Wednesday’s collision.

According to her brother, Pastor Keith Cabral, Stefanie was hit helping a pedestrian.

“My sister was helping with the car in front of her who hydroplaned and hit the side of the bridge. Then, my sister and the guy she helped we’re both hit by an oncoming car.”

Despite her injuries, Pastor Cabral says that Stefanie is doing well under the circumstances.

“She is doing well and is in good spirits. They were trying to remove a couple of blood clots so they could perform surgery (Thursday). They are going to repair her arm, shoulder, hip socket, pelvis, kidney, and ribs. She’s in for a long day. But she is in good spirits.”

According to Massachusetts State Trooper James DeAngelis, Troopers responded to Route 195 Westbound on the Braga Bridge in Fall River at approximately 5:55 a.m. Wednesday for reports of a three-vehicle crash involving a 2020 Chevy pickup, operated by a 30-year-old man from New Bedford, a 2021 Cadillac XT6, operated by a 62-year-old man from Acushnet, and a 2023 Kia Sportage, operated by Cabral.

The operators of the Cadillac and Cabral were transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

The New Bedford man, who suffered minor injuries, was also issued a criminal summons for motor vehicle related offenses.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created to help Stefanie with expenses and has raised $1,300 as of this writing.

Stefanie has been a student at UMass Dartmouth and has ties to the South Coast and Rhode Island. We wish her a speedy recovery.
