UMass Dartmouth student 6 weeks from graduating killed in Fall River crash

The name of a man who died from injuries sustained in a highway crash in Fall River has been released.

According to Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 11:38 a.m. on October 26th, the Massachusetts State Police responded to a crash in Fall River involving a sedan and an SUV that resulted in the death of the sedan’s operator.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a Toyota Corolla was westbound on Route 195 near the 14.6 mile marker. For reasons still under investigation, the Corolla was travelling at a high rate of speed when it rear-ended a Jeep Renegade SUV that was also westbound on Route 195. The Corolla then veered into the median and struck a tree, where it came to rest.

The operator of the Corolla, a Colorado man, sustained severe injuries and was determined to be deceased on scene. The operator of the Jeep SUV was not injured.

According to Trooper James DeAngelis, the victim in the crash has been identified as Duncan Martin, 29, of Longmont, Colorado.

According to family, Martin was 6 weeks away from graduating from UMass Dartmouth and was living in Fall River while in school. He was known as very smart and driven.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the State Police-Dartmouth Barracks, State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Troopers were assisted on scene by Fall River Fire Department and EMS.
