DARTMOUTH, MA – On Thursday, December 1, 2022 at approximately 11:22 a.m., members of the Dartmouth Police Department responded to 1143 Tucker Road, after receiving a call of several people arguing.

Upon arrival, Officer Craig Cote was advised by a man involved in the altercation that another man, subsequently identified as Jeremias Cabral, 21, of Fall River, had threatened him with a knife and stole his cell phone. The man further stated that Cabral then forced a female and her infant child into a Mitsubishi Lancer operated by another man, subsequently identified as Michael Abrantes, 28, of Fall River. Subsequent to this, the vehicle fled the scene.

As it was believed that the well-being of both the female and her child were in jeopardy, an Amber Alert was subsequently requested and issued.

As a result of the collective effort between the Dartmouth Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, and the City of Fall River Police Department, a short time later the female and her child were found unharmed in Fall River. In addition, both Cabral and Abrantes were also located and taken into custody.

Upon being interviewed by detectives, the female disclosed that she and the child had not been abducted and had left willingly without being threatened.

As a result of the incident, Cabral was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon and larceny, and Abrantes was charged with possession of both a Class A and B drug.

According to Dartmouth Chief of Police, Brian P. Levesque, “I am extremely pleased that there were no injuries as a result of this incident, and I would also like to acknowledge the exemplary teamwork put forward by all of the involved agencies.”
