Thomas Giunta Road Race to aid students, reunite “Bob’s Day Off”

The annual Thomas Giunta 5k is set to begin once again this April. With it, will bring the reunion of a popular local band.

The Thomas Giunta 5k Road Race is a wheel measured 3.1 mile loop. The course is open to all runners, walkers, and wheelchair athletes.

Trophies will go to the top 3 finishers in eight age group categories, as well as top 5 overall police officers, top 5 police teams and first wheelchair finishers.

Thomas Giunta was a Fall River Police Officer for 21 years before he was fatally injured in the line of duty on August 24, 1994. Giunta was distributing parking passes for the annual Holy Ghost Feast when he encountered a man who wrestled his weapon away from him and fatally shot him.

The race benefits the Officer Thomas J. Giunta Memorial Scholarship fund.

The 5k will start at 12:10pm on Sunday April 7th in front of BK’s Tavern located at 320 Airport Road and finish at the same location.

This year for the 25th Anniversary, “Bob’s Day Off” will be reuniting to play the after party at The Fall River Elks Club at 4500 North Main Street.

You can register for the race online at www.racewire.com or Saturday April 6th at The Elks Club from 7 PM-9:30 PM or on race day on Sunday, April 7th from 9:30 AM-11:30 AM. For traditional registration, a $25 non-refundable entry fee is required. After the race, there will be an all you can eat buffet, awards, raffles, and the performance by “Bob’s Day Off”.
