Coder – Steward Health Care
Transforms written descriptions of disease, injuries, conditions, and procedures into numerical designations (codes) to facilitate payment for health services, to evaluate utilization patterns, to study the appropriateness of health care cost and to access medical records by diagnosis and operations through retrieval for medical research, education and administration
Minimum Education Requirements: High school diploma
Minimum Work Experience: One to three years coding experience in a hospital setting
Other skills and abilities:
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, disease processes and the ICD-9-CM, ICD-10, CPT-4 and Physician coding systems required. Must be knowledgeable in the various uses of the coded information and the requirements of agencies regarding coding.
Equipment/Software/Certification: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS preferred
