Ten trash trucks go up in flames at Norton Waste Management facility
Several departments responded to an early morning fire involving a line of trash trucks.
According to MEMA, at 5:55 a.m., the Norton Fire Department received a call that black smoke was coming from the Waste Management facility on Hill Street.
Upon arrival, on scene command reported several trash trucks fully involved. Additional companies were dispatched to the scene and at 6:30 a.m., Mansfield EMA Rehab was assigned along with other companies.
All told, 10 large trash trucks were fully involved and packed with trash. The fires were very stubborn as crews required heavy wreckers and loaders to pry open the trucks and pull the burning debris from inside.
Mansfield EMA was released from the scene at 1:00 p.m.
Taunton Fire, North Attleboro Fire, and Easton Fire also responded while Raynham and Rehoboth fire companies covered the Norton station.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
