Taunton Fire Department gives update on massive auto auction lot fire
TAUNTON — Chief Timothy Bradshaw is reporting that the Taunton Fire Department is working to extinguish a fire involving roughly 30 vehicles in the lot of an auto auction in East Taunton.
Firefighters were called to the IAA Auto Auction at 580 Myricks Street, in East Taunton, at 5:41 p.m., and discovered approximately 30 vehicles were burning.
There are no reports of injuries.
Crews from Taunton Engine 1, Engine 3 and Engine 9 are battling the working fire, with mutual aid from a Raynham Fire Department tanker truck.
The auto auction lot is in a remote area that is one of the few parts of Taunton without fire hydrants, so firefighters at the scene have stretched over 2,000 feet of hose lines to battle the flames.
“It’s tough to get the trucks in there because the vehicles are close together,” Chief Bradshaw said. “We appreciate the assistance from our mutual aid partners.”
The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.
