Swansea man sentenced to prison on child rape, drug and firearms charges after large amount of drugs and cash seized

SWANSEA — A Swansea man has been sentenced to prison on child rape, drug and firearms charges after pleading guilty in Fall River Superior Court Wednesday.

21-year-old Joshua Andrade received a not less than 8 years but not more than 12-year sentence.

According to Swansea Police, in December of 2022, members of the Swansea Police Detective Unit, Abuse Unit and Patrol Division executed a court-authorized search warrant at the 300 block of Wilbur Ave. -Andrade’s residence — in connection with an ongoing sexual assault investigation.

During the course of the search, officers located a 9mm Glock handgun, a large capacity 9mm magazine, ammunition, a large amount of suspected marijuana, a large amount of psilocybin mushrooms, a large amount of Adderall, a large amount of Oxycodone, a large amount of alprazolam (Xanax), Suboxone, a large amount of cash and items believed to be related to a sexual assault.

Andrade was arrested at the scene at the time of the search and faced over a dozen charges including Rape of a Child, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and several Possession with Intent to Distribute.

The Swansea Police Department was assisted by the Somerset Police Department Detective Unit, Rehoboth Police K9 Unit and the Seekonk Police K9 Unit for the execution of the search warrants.
