Suspect captured in Assonet indicted for roll in fatal shooting of Marvin Hill

BROCKTON – Two men have been indicted on charges for their roles in the fatal shooting of a man in Brockton, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced. 

Thursday, a Plymouth County grand jury returned indictments charging Donta Hood, 33, with one count each of Murder, Possession of a Firearm Without a License, as an Armed Career Criminal, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, as a subsequent offender and Armed Career Criminal; Carrying a Firearm without a License; and Discharging a Weapon Within 500 feet of a Building. He is currently being held without bail. Leon Shelby, 34, was also indicted on one count of Accessory After the Fact to Murder. 

At just after 6:15 p.m. on December 5, 2023, Brockton Police were contacted about a shooting in the vicinity of 28 Lexington Street and Green Street. Upon arrival, first responders located a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital before being medflighted to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston where he was pronounced dead of his injuries. He was identified as 35-year-old Marvin Hill of Brockton. 

Brockton Police contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and began the investigation. As a result, on December 8, investigators sought and obtained an arrest warrant for Hood. On December 20, 2023, Massachusetts State Police located Donta Hood at a home in Assonet and he was taken into custody. Hood will be arraigned on the charges in Brockton Superior Court at a later date. Thursday, an arrest warrant issued for Shelby.
