State Police looking for public’s help after identifying Massachusetts motorcycle rider killed in highway collision

A 26-year-old Massachusetts man was killed Monday night following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 91 Northbound in Windsor.

According to the Connecticut State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 8:28 p.m. near Exits 39 and 41.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2010 Ducati Streetfighter motorcycle, operated by 26-year-old Juan Miguel Martinez was traveling in the right lane when it struck the rear left side of a 2019 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck driven by 48-year-old Jesus Manuel Lopez-Torres of Vermont.

After the initial impact, the motorcycle veered left, crossed onto the paved median, and struck the jersey barrier. Martinez was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest on I-91 Southbound. He was transported by East Windsor EMS to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Lopez-Torres was not injured in the crash. He refused medical treatment at the scene and drove his vehicle away. The Toyota sustained minor damage.The Ducati suffered disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Midtown Towing.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop H of the Connecticut State Police.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who was driving in the area with a dashboard camera at the time, to contact Trooper First Class John Wilson at john.wilson@ct.gov.
