Chief Todd Costa reports that the Somerset Police Department arrested a man and seized 400 bags of heroin along with a quantity of crack cocaine this weekend.

On Sunday, March 27th, Somerset Police Officer Eli Fishbein developed information that 63-year-old William Bruce, who had three outstanding warrants issued by the Fall River District Court, was at the Riverview Inn and Suites, 1878 Wilbur Ave.

With this information, Officer Fishbein and Officer Brian Dempsey initiated an attempt to locate Bruce and take him into custody, and subsequently located him entering the hotel from the parking lot.

During the process of taking him into custody on the preexisting warrants, officers allegedly located approximately 400 pre-packaged bags of heroin and 40 grams of suspected crack cocaine in Bruce’s possession.

Bruce was arrested and charged with Trafficking of a Class B substance (crack cocaine) and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class A substance (heroin).

Bruce is expected to be arraigned today in Fall River District Court.
