Several crews in RI make heroic rescue after car crashes and plunges into fast moving waters
Multiple crews combined to make a heroic rescue after a vehicle crashed and plunged into a river this weekend.
Just before 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning, the Charlestown Richmond Fire Department along with Cross’ Mills Fire Department, Charlestown Ambulance Rescue Service, Charlestown Police Department and mutual aid from Richmond – Carolina Fire District were all dispatched to a single car motor vehicle accident in the area of 1659 Shannock Road in Charlestown Rhode Island with reports the vehicle was overturned and in the water.
According to the Charlestown Richmond Fire Department, CPD and CRFD were first to arrive on scene and located the driver clinging to the rear of the vehicle. The scene was quickly assessed, and the decision was made to enter the swiftly moving water to attempt a rope rescue. CPD and CRFD members were able to secure the driver and remove the driver from the water.
The driver was handed over to rescue for evaluation.
A heavy-duty tow company was contacted to remove the vehicle from the water.
Just before 4:00 a.m. the scene was cleared.
