Fall River, MA – Saint Anne’s Hospital has been awarded an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for the 24th consecutive time by The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit upholding the standard of excellence in patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers. This accolade recognizes Saint Anne’s as one of 18 hospitals out of more than 3,000 hospitals in the country to earn an “A” Grade continuously since 2012.

Saint Anne’s Hospital President Michael Bushell noted, “Achieving such remarkable consistency in patient safety is the result of efforts by each our of employees and members of the medical staff. Attention to detail, clear communication, teamwork, and expertise have helped Saint Anne’s become a model for patient safety. On behalf of our patients, we are proud to recognize all who contribute to our culture of safety, each and every day.”

Saint Anne’s is joined by St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton, also a Steward Health Care hospital, as being recognized with the “A” Safety Grade.

The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“My sincere congratulations to Saint Anne’s team for upholding patient safety standards through thick and thin, never wavering in more than a decade,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This hospital team clearly puts patients first, and the results are extraordinary.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring. Saint Anne’s has earned an “A” every time the grades were updated since the inception of the Hospital Safety Grade in 2012.
