The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office has dropped felony charges against a local woman who’s dogs died this past summer after she left them in a hot car.

According to WJAR 10, the charges against Anne Garnett, 65, of Jamestown, were dismissed because they “were not warranted.”

According to police, Jamestown Police officers responded to McQuades Market Place back in July for the report of three dogs found to be unresponsive inside of a vehicle. The officers and bystanders along with members of the Jamestown Fire Department attempted to revive the three dogs and transported them to Newport Animal Hospital. All three dogs were determined to be deceased.

Upon investigation, officers determined that the Garnett had left them unattended in the vehicle for an extended period of time. It appeared that the air conditioning in the vehicle was not working and the windows in the vehicle were rolled up. The dogs were left without any water in the vehicle.

Garnett had received support from those in the community stating that the incident was an accident and that she was a dedicated advocate for animals.
