Roadwork over several days on I-195 in Swansea to cause detours, lane and exit closures
SWANSEA – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced it will be performing roadwork on I-195 eastbound and westbound between mile markers 4.5 and 11.0, including the on-ramps and off-ramps for exit 5 in Swansea.
Nightly work is scheduled to take place beginning on Sunday, June 7th, at 8:00 p.m., and continuing through 4:30 a.m. the following morning, nightly through Thursday, June 11th. Work is anticipated to be completed by Friday morning, June 12th.
The following detours will be in place:
I-195 eastbound exit 5 off-ramp (to Route 136): Sunday evening until Monday morning
- Continue eastbound on I-195
- Take exit 8 to Route 6
- Turn right onto Route 6
- Take on-ramp to I-195 westbound
- Take exit 5 to Route 136
- End detour.
I-195 eastbound exit 5 on-ramp (from Route 136): Sunday evening until Monday morning
- Take on-ramp to I-195 westbound
- Take exit 1 to Route 114A / Fall River Avenue
- Turn left onto Route 114A / Fall River Avenue
- Take on-ramp to I-195 eastbound
- End detour.
I-195 westbound exit 5 off-ramp (to Route 136): Monday evening until Tuesday morning
- Continue on I-195 westbound
- Take exit 1 to Route 114A / Fall River Avenue
- Turn left onto Route 114A / Fall River Avenue
- Take on-ramp to I-195 eastbound
- Take exit 5 to Route 136
- End detour.
I-195 westbound exit 5 on-ramp (from Route 136): Monday evening until Tuesday morning
- Continue westbound on I-195 to exit 1 (Route 114A)
- Take exit 1 to Route 114A / Fall River Avenue
- Turn left onto Fall River Avenue
- Take on-ramp to I-195 eastbound
- End detour.
Lane closures on I-195 eastbound and westbound will be in place. Temporary traffic alterations, including lane and shoulder closures, will occur as needed. At least one lane of travel will be maintained at all times, and police will assist with traffic control and safety setups.
Appropriate signage and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.
Drivers traveling through the affected area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.
