Rhode Island student reportedly jumps off of high school building
A student in Rhode Island reportedly jumped off of a school on Monday.
A call came into dispatch at approximately 8:30 a.m. for a person that jumped off of the roof of South Kingstown High School.
Upon arrival, crews stated that the person was alert, but barely conscious, and that the drop was about 30 feet.
The victim was transported to a local hospital.
According to witnesses, the person who jumped was a female.
The following notice was released by the school shortly after the incident:
“We are writing to let you know that we had an emergency situation involving a student this morning. We immediately followed our safety protocols, including contacting emergency responders. There are no safety concerns. At this time, we do not have additional information to share.
“We understand that situations like this can be upsetting and may bring up a range of emotions. If you or a friend would like support or someone to talk to, counselors and staff are available throughout the day and this week in the Guidance Office. Please do not hesitate to reach out.
“We also encourage you to check in on one another and connect with a trusted adult if you need support. Our school community is here for you.
“Thank you for your care and cooperation today.”

We contacted the police and fire departments for an update and have not yet heard back.
