Rhode Island sex offender arrested after numerous neighborhood complaints

Narragansett Police have arrested a sex offender after multiple incidents.

Between September 16th and September 22nd police received multiple calls concerning a suspicious male in the area of Eastward Look. Complainants reported that he was seen looking through windows, hiding in bushes, trying door handles, and prowling in yards. One residents was reportedly entered into. On a few occasions he was spotted and fled on his bicycle.

On September 22nd, officers patrolled the area in plain clothes and unmarked vehicles. At approximately 11:00 p.m., officers spotted a man crouching in bushes on Sakonnet Blvd. The male, wearing a dark hoodie and gloves, attempted to get away, but was stopped by the officers. The male told police he was in the back yard because he is afraid of drunk drivers while he is on his bike at night.

Officers identified the male as Brett Z. Black. Black is a level II sex offender. Black has been the subject of numerous complaints in the past several years according to police. Black is also a suspect in a burglary.

Black was arraigned at the station and charged with trespassing. Surety bail was set and Black is scheduled to be re-arraigned on October 2nd.
