Police in Rhode Island have arrested a teen on domestic violence charges after a shooting at his girlfriend’s home.

Today, at approximately 3:40 a.m., East Providence Police received a call reporting shots fired on Goldsmith Avenue. Upon officers’ arrival, it was determined the shooting suspect fled the scene in a vehicle prior to the officers arriving in the area. It was also revealed that a domestic incident had occurred approximately 30 minutes prior to the shooting inside the same residence.

Investigating officers learned that the suspect in the domestic disturbance, later identified as 19-year-old Andres Martinez of Central Falls had assaulted his girlfriend, took her cell phone and her vehicle. He then left the scene. Approximately 30 minutes later, three rounds were fired into the victim’s residence. One of the rounds entered the victim’s bedroom. None of the rounds struck any of the occupants in the home.

Members of the East Providence Police Detective Division responded and continued the investigation. Detectives were able to locate Martinez in Central Falls. With the assistance of the Central Falls Police Department, Martinez was taken into custody without incident.

Martinez is being charged with Domestic Simple Assault and Battery, Domestic Disorderly Conduct, and Larceny from the Person.

The identity of the person responsible for the shooting remains under investigation.
