Rhode Island man arrested after authorities locate multiple pipe bombs

Several organizations combined to arrest a Rhode Island man accused of owning multiple pipe bombs.

According to police, on April 6, at approximately 3:45 p.m., members of the West Warwick/Coventry Regional SWAT Team, East Providence SWAT Team, RI State Fire Marshal’s Office-Bomb Squad, and Warwick Police K-9, responded to a Renehan Court residence located in West Warwick, to execute a court authorized search warrant.

Members of the West Warwick Police Department learned of credible information that Thomas Jacques was suspected of possessing bomb making materials and making Improvised Explosive Devices.

Jacques was contacted by West Warwick/Coventry crisis negotiators and peacefully exited the house. A search was conducted of the residence led by the RI State Fire Marshal’s Office-Bomb Squad and West Warwick/Coventry Regional SWAT Team, during which two pipe bombs were located.

On April 7, 2023, Jacques was arraigned at Third District Court and charged with two counts Possession of Materials Convertible to a Bomb in violation of RIGL 11-13-9(c).

The West Warwick Police Department thanked the Coventry Police Department, Rhode Island State Fire Marshal’s Office Bomb Squad, the East Providence Police Department and the Warwick Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
