Repairs taking place on Veterans Memorial Bridge to cause detours

FALL RIVER/SOMERSET – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that it will be performing overnight repairs to the Veterans Memorial Bridge over the Taunton River eastbound in Fall River and Somerset on Thursday, May 14, 2020. The bridge repair operations will require the temporary overnight closure of Route 6 eastbound from 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, through 3:00 a.m. on Friday, May 15. The work is expected to be completed in one night.

A detour will be in place directing vehicles to Interstate 195 eastbound over the Braga Bridge. A minimum of one open travel lane will be maintained at all times.

A temporary detour will be in place for all motor vehicle traffic as follows:

Traveling east on Route 6

· Travel east on Route 6 toward Route 138 Fall River.

· Take a right onto Brayton Avenue.

· Proceed through rotary and onto Route 103 (Wilbur Avenue).

· Continue on Route 103 (Wilbur Avenue).

· Follow Route 6 detour signage to I-195 eastbound, traveling over the Braga Bridge.

· Take exit 5 – Route 79/Route 138.

· Take a right at the end of the ramp onto Route 79/Route 138 north.

· Follow Route 79/Route 138 to Route 6.

Traveling south on Route 138

· Travel south on Route 138 toward Route 6.

· Continue on Route 103 (Riverside Avenue).

· Proceed through rotary and continue on Route 103 (Wilbur Avenue).

· Continue on Route 103 (Wilbur Avenue).

· Follow Route 6 detour signage to I-195 eastbound, traveling over the Braga Bridge.

· Take exit 5 – Route 79/Route 138.

· Take a right at the end of the ramp onto Route 79/Route 138 north.

· Follow Route 79/Route 138 to Route 6.

Traffic control management will include police detail officers for various lane and shoulder closures on Route 6 westbound.

Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency situation.
