Police chase on Route 6 leads to arrests of two from New Bedford, Freetown, recovery of stolen motorcycle
According to police, on Monday October 4th, the Mattapoisett Police Department placed two suspects in custody after a vehicle and foot pursuit which ended in Fairhaven.
At approximately 9:48 p.m., Sgt. Dumas from the Mattapoisett Police Department received information that the Wareham Police Department was looking for a U-Haul truck which was possibly involved in the larceny of a motorcycle in their town. Sgt. Dumas observed the suspect vehicle exit I-195 westbound and proceed south on North Street. Sgt. Dumas activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle disregarded his lights and siren and a pursuit began. Mattapoisett Officers Tavares and Borges assisted Sgt. Dumas.
Fairhaven Police were notified that Mattapoisett Officers were pursuing a vehicle which was traveling west on Route 6 towards Fairhaven. Sgt. Gordon from the Fairhaven Police Department was able to successfully deploy his stop sticks and deflate all four tires of the vehicle. The vehicle continued for a short distance and eventually stopped in the parking lot of 4 David Drown Boulevard. Once the vehicle stopped, both the operator and the passenger fled on foot and were placed into custody after a short foot pursuit.
The motorcycle which was valued at approximately $17,000 was recovered at the scene and returned to the owner.
