One man captured, another wanted for questioning, after Newport shooting injures two

Authorities have captured one man and still want to question another after a Rhode Island double shooting.

According to Newport Police, on Wednesday, U.S. Marshal Service, arrested 19-year-old Tyquan Johnson on a warrant from Newport Police for the charges of Felony Assault with a Firearm and Discharging a Firearm in a Compact Area. 

On July 19th at just before 10:00 p.m., Newport Police Officers responded to the area of Truman Road and Rosedale Avenue for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived on scene, they located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds in their lower extremities with non-threatening injuries. 

During the course of the investigation, Newport Police Detectives learned that were two suspects involved in this shooting. One of the suspects was identified as 19-year-old Tyquan Johnson and an arrest warrant for Felony Assault with a Firearm and Discharging a Firearm in a Compact Area was obtained for Johnson. It was learned that Johnson may have fled to Virginia and the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force was contacted to assist in the search for him. Through their investigative efforts, RIVFTF developed information that Johnson was at a residence in Newport News, Virginia. 

On Wednesday at about 8:30 a.m., members of the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Johnson at an address on Chestnut Avenue in Newport News, Virginia.
