According to the District Attorney’s Office, on the morning of January 7th, Uxbridge Police Department Officer Stephen LaPorta was killed while on duty, after he was struck on Route 146 Northbound, near mile marker 5.9, in Uxbridge.

The preliminary investigation suggested that at approximately 12:40 a.m., Officer LaPorta was outside his vehicle, assisting a motorist, when he was struck.

Officer LaPorta was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The motorist who was being assisted was not physically injured.

In 2024, LaPorta became a full-time officer after previously serving the town as a full-time dispatcher and working part-time patrol shifts.

Those who knew LaPorta described him as smart, hardworking, and dedicated, but always knew how to smile and enjoy himself.

According to multiple reports, it was icy at the scene, and the investigation has now concluded with no criminal charges.
