One person has been ejected in a serious crash on Route 24 Sunday morning in Freetown.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, the crash happened at 5:07 a.m. and involved 3 cars: a 2007 Toyota RAV4 sport utility operated by a 29-year-old woman from Berkley, a 2013 Ford F150 pickup operated by a 47-year-old man from Hopkinton, and a 2011 Volkswagen GTI hatchback operated by a 27-year-old man from Chicopee.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the RAV4 was traveling northbound on Route 24 when, for reasons still under investigation, it crossed over into the median, hit a guardrail, and spun out and came to rest in the right lane. The Ford F150 was oncoming in the right lane and struck the RAV4, causing the driver of the RAV4 to be ejected.

The driver of the RAV4 sustained serious injuries and was transported to Charlton Hospital and from there to Rhode Island Hospital.

The RAV4 and Ford sustained heavy damage. The Volkswagen was traveling northbound in the left lane and struck the radiator from the RAV4, causing minor damage. Neither the driver of the Ford or the Volkswagen were injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation
