New Bedford and Fall River virus case rates decrease, but lead Bristol County
Massachusetts saw a decrease in cases, active cases, hospitalizations and average positive test rate in Thursday’s COVID-19 report.
Massachusetts saw 215 more positive cases announced today, a decrease from Wednesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate decreased slightly from 0.86% to 0.80%. Today’s percentage was the lowest since September 22nd.
Massachusetts had seen 382 more positive cases announced yesterday which was the lowest since September.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show an increase in total confirmed cases to 660,513 with 9 new deaths (9 confirmed, 0 probable) for a total of 17,850 (17,491 confirmed, 359 probable).
The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 22,823,577 after 43,165 new molecular tests.
The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths remained at 6.1. At the beginning of February, the average death rate was 70+.
Estimated active cases saw a decrease by 500+ to 7,843. In the last 36 days, active cases have decreased by over 26,400.
Hospitalizations have increased in 94 of the last 200 days, but saw a decrease of 11 to lower the total to 253. Hospitalizations have decreased in 31 of the last 37 days after a period of mainly increases. There were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Tuesday’s total of 248 active hospitalizations was the lowest since September 27th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report
According to the May 27th report, Fall River has a 13.4 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (15.8 last week). New Bedford, who has the highest rate in Bristol County, saw a decrease to 15.9 (was 21.9). Westport saw a decrease to 3.4 (was 6.0), Swansea is at 8.1, a decrease, and was 14.3 last week. Somerset saw a decrease as they sit at 8.1 (was 12.7). Freetown stands at 6.3, a decrease from 7.9. Dartmouth is currently at 3.9, a decrease from last week’s 4.4. Acushnet decreased to 7.5 (was 19.1). Berkley is at 10.5 and was 9.4 last week.
1 Massachusetts community, the small town of Tisbury on Martha’s Vineyard, is in the red (high risk) which is down from 2 last week. 6 were in the red the week before.
Massachusetts Officials have issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on May 27th.
