Here is a fascinating animal story that you just don’t hear every day.

According to the Dakin Human Society in Springfield, Massachusetts, more than two years ago, the unthinkable happened to Karla and her family when their beloved cat Shoto got out of the house and disappeared during an especially severe January cold snap.

Shoto was this family’s first cat and despite their best efforts, he was never found. They missed his presence in their family terribly every day. Shoto had lived with his family in their home in Texas.

Dakin staff members were left in disbelief when a Good Samaritan brought in a skinny stray cat who needed help. The microchip scanner chirped when it hovered over Shoto’s microchip.

When Dakin’s Massachusetts area code came up on Karla’s phone, she almost shrugged it off as a telemarketer or another unwanted call. Thankfully, contact was made. Without missing a beat, Karla made plans to drive to Dakin to pick up Shoto, a 26-hour-each-way journey from Texas!

No one except for Shoto will ever know how he got to Massachusetts, what he experienced, or who he met along the way. That adventure will forever remain his secret.

Dakin was honored to have reunited the family after such a long time apart, thanks to the amazing power of a microchip!
