A Massachusetts boy who started a food pantry in Southeastern Massachusetts has died.

According to family, at 9:59 p.m. last night, after a courageous 505-day fight with AML Leukemia, 16-year-old Shane McColgan took his final breaths surrounded by those who loved him most, and in the arms of his heartbroken mother.

Shane Gives Thanks Inc, a food pantry at 128 Main Street in Carver, was started in 2014 by then 7-year-old Shane who was on a mission that no one should go without.

Shane started asking friends and families to donate for thanksgiving boxes, To date, the pantry has donated over 2000 Thanksgiving boxes to local families and food to a local school.

The family issued a statement on social media after Shane’s death.

“Don’t consume yourself with sadness, for his memory will live on forever as his legacy of helping others will continue to fill our hearts with love and peace as we celebrate the 16 amazing years we had with him on this earth as he waits for us in heaven. Krystle and I would like to say thank you to our friends, family and supporters. We are forever grateful for the support over the last 18 months. We ask for privacy as we process this devastating loss as a family and ask you to keep our family in your prayers.”

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created for Shane’s medical expenses.
